Free VoIP

The ObiHai device is a great device, it allows you to use Google Voice for free with your home phone. It allows you unlimited incoming and outgoing telephone calls to all of the US for free all for just the cost of the device. This device is similar in cost to the Magic Jack device, with out the annual cost, and the quality is actually better.

This is the BEST value for home phone service, as its over all costs are cheaper than any other options. Google Voice also has competitive international rates, so not only will you be getting free calls within the US, but you will also be able to make direct dialed long distance calls at very reasonable rates.

A great complement to using Google Voice with the ObiHai for your home phone service, is to download GroovIP for your android phone and use Google Voice for your cell phone service. With GroovIP you could use your cell phone data to make calls. This would be great with an old WiFi enabled cell phone that does not have service to use as a free WiFi phone, or with a prepaid cell phone plan that offers unlimited data but limits voice minutes, such as the Beyond Data plans offered by Virgin Mobile. There is a lite version of this software that is free, and would be sufficient for most people, but the full app is reasonably priced and is recommended for some additional features and functionality.

Finally, there is an ATA device available to allow you to use your Google Voice service. http://obihai.com/ has created an ATA device that works with many VoIP providers - INCLUDING Google Voice.

Now you can connect your Google Voice number directly to a phone with out having to do any tricky set ups. Best of all your outgoing calls will show your Google Voice number, so you do not need to dial into your Google Voice number, or use the click to call features to make your GV number appear on the outgoing caller ID.

Seems like the cheap/free unlimited calling market just got a whole lot more interesting. This device is cheaper than the Ooma and Nettalk, and only a few dollars more than the Magicjack - BUT you can use Google Voice, so as long as Google Voice keeps their price at free even just for another year this unit is the cheapest alternative to land phone service.
